Sunn Concert Lead produces more power @ 8 ohm than 4 ohm??
« on: April 05, 2011, 01:42:08 pm »
I brought my 1972 silver face concert lead in for some service. The tech has a good rep working on Sunn stuff and seems like a knowledgeable guy in general.  He says this amp "is not typical" and produces more power at 8 ohm vs. 4 ohm. Is this possible? Can I test this ( I have a multimeter )?

To test the power output you would need a signal generator, an oscilloscope and dummy loads of any impedances you want to test the amp with. If the amp is working correctly, it will produce more power with a 4 ohm load than it will with an 8 ohm load.

As loudthud says, it might be possible if the amp is not working correctly, but a properly functioning amp will produce more power into a 4 ohm load than into an 8 ohm load.

Are you sure the tech tested his output loads correctly? Can't see how an 8 ohm load gets you more power in this amp.
