Sunn Coliseum Sound System 2x15 for Sale - UK
« on: April 19, 2011, 03:45:30 am »
Had this cab for about 3 months now and am selling to fund a 4x15 cab I have on reserve.

Looks like the original speakers (magnets are big square ones but I can't see any brand name on them). See the post below from EDBASS for a more accurate description of the cab.

  • Grill is original and in good condition
  • Tolex is marked in one or two places, seem to be a couple of holes cut into the back of the cab but these are filled in and painted black.
  • Wheels all work great
  • Original handle - still works fine

This cab was rewired by me to 16 ohms (I use it for guitar) and it works absolutely fine, no issues. I can deliver anywhere in the UK if you pay my mileage at 40p a mile or you can collect yourself no problem / arrange courier etc......

Any offers? Please email me at conandestroy(theatsign)hotmail.com

Cheers

That's not a 2000S cab. I think it's a 1968 Coliseum Sound system cabinet, and it originally came loaded with a pair of JBL D130's and a JBL "bullet" tweeter. That's why the top 15 is offset, and what that round hole in the top right of the baffle is for. The hole in the back was where the crossover/attenuator for the tweeter was mounted.
It's also too small, a 2000S measures 46" x 30" x 15" and I'll betcha your cab measures 40" x 24" x 15" (not counting the wheels).

Pretty rare cab, but not a 2000S.

Wow! First Coliseum PA cab I've ever seen.  Ed isn't it a 200S cab with the Bullet tweeter and xover added? Why were the speakers offset, wouldn't there have been room for the tweet?  I have a pair of Studio PA cabs with the JBL offset, but the LE100 horn takes up a fair amount of room.  I also got a deal on what I thought was a 2000S cab but when I got it the top speaker is offset and you can see where the LE100 and xover used to be which would make it a 1000S cab.  The picture in the Sunn Museum 1968 Catalog shows the 1000S Cabs with the speakers in line but I think the LE100 takes up enough room that the speakers have to be offset.  That would mean the cabs in the picture are not 1000S but 1500S or 2000S.

I think the Coliseum system used the JBL Model 075 "bullet" tweeters rather than the horn lensed LE100 that was used in the 100S and 1000S. I imagine that they figured a pair of D130's would handle pretty much everything but the real high stuff, since it was a full range driver.
I don't know the specs but I believe that the LE100 could handle being crossed over lower than the ultra high "bullet".
