This pic reminds me of when I was the editor of a music magazine in the 90s. I had a 22 y.o. kid I hired as an assistant editor and he had gone to a Jewish wedding of another of our editors over the previous weekend.
On Monday, he came in and was telling me about it. then he says..."The only part that sucked was that some fat, bald old Jewish guy heard I worked for a music magazine and started telling me some bullshit that he played bass with Steve Stills and Mike Bloomfield on Super Session and The Doors and Bob Dylan....What a nutjob..."
I yelled over "His name wasn't Harvey was it?"
The kid stops and looks over really shocked and said "Yeah. How'd you know that?"
I quietly mumble...."Harvey Brooks....very famous session player from the '60s....Dumbass."
About two weeks after that, I get in a heated debate with the kid after he edits a feature on the history of the blues and changes every "Negro" and "Black" bluesman reference to "African American Bluesman." I tell him that there was no such term at that time and he is putiing political correctness before historical accuracy. He gets real defensive and starts ranting that he is correct.
I get on the phone and call the drummer I'd been recording with, a black guy who has played with everyone from Weather Report to Billy Joel. He picks up, I explain the situation and he says "put that boy on the phone and let me straighten his ass out..."
It was classic.
When he got off the phone, I asked the kid..."Just what DID they teach you in college?"
