Concert Slave solid-state question
« on: June 16, 2011, 03:11:09 pm »
I picked up a Concert Slave relatively cheaply but it has a 1967-style fuzz tone to it. I've used my Coliseum Bass preamp and my Ampeg SVT-DI and got the same result. Plenty of power but cheesy fuzz tone.

Generally speaking, I enjoy cheesy fuzz tone (reminds me of my youth) but only when I expect to hear it.

Any likely causes? Thanks.

Sounds like crossover distortion - do you have a scope?

No, I don't.

I plan to take it to a tech but was just curious about the possible cause.  A year or two ago a friend of mine bought a Concert Slave that distorted like this but also was down on power. New caps solved both problems, from what he told me at the time.
