Sunn Magna 1516 15" Speakers
« on: August 05, 2011, 10:18:05 am »
Hi,

I recently bought a Sunn 415M that had three original speakers (Magna 1516's) and a replacement JBL. Unfortunately, I had the cabinet shipped and when it arrived the replacement JBL had fallen out of it's port and conveniently destroyed the three original Magna's (lesson learned). Ironically, the JBL is fine. Not a scratch. I am going to attempt to have the originals reconed and, in the process, am looking for one (or more) Magna 1516's so I can promptly smash the JBL purely out of spite. Does anyone have any leads? I bought some replacements off eBay that were listed as 15" but found out they were in fact Magna 184 18" speakers when they arrived...

I need to give up and stop buying things. Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Odds are that the JBL is a substantially superior (and more valuable) speaker than the Magnas.
What model JBL is it? Certain ones are held in pretty high regard around here, maybe you could use it for trade bait.

What ohm rating do you need? I think the 415M speakers are 16 ohmers. If not, I have an 8 ohm Magna and a 4 ohm Magna (which started life as a 16 ohm speaker) to sell if either of those would be any help.

Sunn nomenclature tells us. A Sunn 1516 driver is a 15" driver with a 16 ohm voice coil. A 128 is a 12", 8 ohms, and so on.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.

EdBass - I'd like to keep the cab as original as possible, which was my reason for purchasing it with the original Magna's and (supposedly) buying replacements. Not sure what model the JBL is, but I'm assuming it's a more recent middle of the road model. As stanner mentioned, it was pretty much used as filler.

CLD - Unfortunately, they are indeed 16 ohms.

stanner - Seems this is your old cabinet. The top right JBL wasn't installed solid enough to survive the shipping process and there was nothing behind the baffle to protect the speakers. The screws were too close to the edge and ripped right out of the wood. Were you the one that shipped it from Edmonton?

If it's a JBL, it should have a model number on the back. Can you post a picture?

Yeah. Sorry, I meant to mention I was going to check it out once I hit up my rehearsal space.

Where are you?

FWIW, I checked ebay, and found three Model T's sold recently. One for $1100, one for $1200 and change, one for $1600. If a person can get one for $1100 and have it shipped, why pay $1200?

>concur< i don't need to sell my T's-i just want to get back what i paid-no more-no less...i'm in san fran. the last two Sunn T's on ebay that i saw-Aug.3rd $1675(!) and july 24th $1550. i don't think $1200 is a bad price in this day and age. but hey! thats just me.

add...sold them both in a matter of days after listing them on CL since june
