Sunn Coliseum 300 prob
« on: September 07, 2011, 04:34:41 pm »
Hi I am new here and I'm the bass player in a punk band called Soulful Aggression.  I use a Coliseum Head with an Ampeg SVT 8x10.  The coliseum needs new capacitors.  Is this something I can do myself or should I have it done for 140.00?  thanks in advance!

if you dont have experience working on electronics, don't do it.  Those caps can hold a charge for a long time and if you don't know how to discharge them you'll get a potentially lethal zap.

xs, if you're in Portland, or in Oregon between Portland and Eugene, we could get together and do the job, and probably have some fun.

If not, there might be someone in your area who might help you do the job. It's not that difficult a job, and it's not all that dangerous, if you know what you're doing. You don't seem to have that knowledge, but a fair number of people do, and one might be near you. Of course, some expect you to pay them for that knowledge, and you really can't begrudge them that, especially if that is how they make their living.

Sorry Isaac.  I have written for a chopper magazine for 10 years as XsSpeed and people still say "X-Speed" or "XXSpeed"  I've gotten used to it.

Why new capacitors?

Because the amp quit working and I had it bench tested and the tech told me one capacitor was shot.  I'm getting him to replace them both
