« on: September 07, 2012, 06:33:19 am »
does sunn made amps for european market with a 220v transformer? i'd liek to buy an old concert lead and the seller said:

there is two transformator inside amp.One smaller (220v/secundar110v) and second who serve to amp work..Both transformator are desing in USA for Europian market..On backpanel where is text 120v,beside is a cable for 220v.

what do you think about it? here are a few pics of the amp:

I'd have to look inside at the transformer(s) to form any opinion other than that this is made to work on US power, that is, 120V, 60Hz.

Another thing I noticed is that the preamp out and power amp in jacks are missing. That, to me, says that someone has messed with this amp, so all bets are off. Pretty much anything could be inside.

If Sunn did make an amp for the European market, it would not have the US type power outlet on the back or the US circuit breaker. And it would be marked for the intended line voltage and frequency. Any extra transformer for voltage conversion was probably added by someone in Europe.

Can you get a picture of the end of the power cord so we can see what type of connector is on it? Maybe it has a stepdown tranny added inside (as the seller's text would indicate) feeding the PT  and the courtesy outlet is also stepped down to 120v. I'd really want to see the guts or get this amp for dirt cheap if I couldn't peep inside.

a friend of mine said who saw the amp before, that it has a cheap stepdown transformer installed in it, so the power cord has an europen type plug on the end of it. so i won't pay much for it if it's possible. he'd like to sell it for 250 € but i think that is 150 € is that price what is worth to buy it.

There aren't any export Sunn models in general. But mr EdBass mentions in this post that there are some Spanish labelled Concert Series.

But the amp on the pics doesn't seem to be one of them!

Either way, if you can bought if for about 150euros, it's a great price!! You can always change the Power Transformer if you don't want to have the external converter..

Yes this is definitely what you mentioned on your previous post.
The blue "transformer" is actually a Voltage Convertor (120 to 240). Usually you use them as external devises but in this case it is fitted in the amp. Here a pic of a Concert without it:

Hi,

I use step down x-formers with all Sunn amps. They are about 70...90€.
