help ID this speaker please!?
« on: May 21, 2013, 06:25:53 pm »
hey folks, hope all's ok!

i came across this old 60s sunn 1x18 cab and i'd love to match it up with my other old 4x10 sunn cab from the same era (silver grille, etc. like the who used o use them...). but from my (little) research online, these originally came with eminence or so speakers. this one has this thing in it... any idea what it is?

i could grab it for around $200, should i?

thanks, as always! rock on!

Pat.

Looks to me like a K-Series JBL.

That's not a K series JBL, in fact it's not any JBL I know of. This is a K series JBL;

As you can see it's not at all like the ceramic motored driver pictured.

It could be anything, but here's what it isn't IMO.

JBL
EV
Gauss
Cerwin Vega
Altec
WGS
Eminence

Is there any code number stamped or printed anywhere on the frame?

It might be an E series JBL but the picture is too dark to tell. Shine a light on it or use a flash and post another pic.

Hmmm...
On reviewing my last post, I've come to the conclusion that it may indeed be a JBL E155.
In fact, I'm leaning towards thinking thats exactly what it is.

A code number would probably settle the issue for sure.

If it is for sure an E155, it actually works, and it comes wrapped in a Sunn cabinet I'd pay the $200 in a heartbeat Pacafeliz.

thanks guys! there was also some speculation over at the plexi palace about it!

i got it for 2100 pesos, shipped to me, that's $168 in total. WHAT A DEAL, eh?

strangely, the speaker has no markings whatsoever, and it does not have the silver dust cap. pics coming up.

DANG this thing is BIG and heavy. i thought it'd be the size of my 4x10... duh! ;)

stay tuned, thanks!

Pat.
