190L turning itself off at high volumes
« on: November 04, 2013, 08:53:07 am »
Hi everyone, first time poster here

So I recently bought a 1972 190L. It had been running fine until lately: it started turning itself off whenever I put in high volumes. Strangely enough, if I play through my neck pickup, there is no problem. But whenever I switch to my bridge pickup, a terrible scratchy sound comes up and the amp turns itself off. I have to hit the breaker switch at the back to get it running again. I also started playing it through a 2x15 Traynor bass cab, if that makes any difference.

Does anyone have ideas to why this happens? My very limited technical knowledge would lead me to believe I should change the tubes (I haven't done so since purchase) but I figured I'd ask around in case I need to bring it to a tech anyways.

any help is appreciated. thanks.
