Sunn is great... but how great is it? Acoustic 360????
« on: November 05, 2001, 10:57:00 pm »
Ok, here is the problem! I love sunn. It was my first Bass rig! A concert bass with a sunn 215BH and a sunn 115RH Great Rig! I have many other sunn amps ( all solid state ) For bass. But I was reciently looking at a Acoustic 360. Please tell me what the good or bad things are! I need my fellow sunnhead's help! also I have a fender bandmaster amp that i love... What would be a kick ass sunn all tube amp for gee-tar? I am a power freak so...

If memory serves, the Acoustic 360 is the folded horn cabinet containing a Cerwin-Vega 18 and the power amp, and the head is the pre amp.  These were (are?) quite loud, but difficult to hear well until you're about 30 feet away.  There quite literally are no highs to be heard.  Also, as I recall, the CV speaker is extremely prone to failure.  The variable electronic tuning fork is a hoot.  The pre amp has multiple outputs, so I guess if you could figure out the phasing a second cabinet/power amp could be used for some comprehensible stage volume.  For kicks, you could turn the cabinet toward a wall and use an EB0 with old flatwounds!

( 1)skip the acoustic, if you  go solid state a coluseum amp is a much better choice.the acoustic 360 (+370) amps don't sound the same on stage as they do 20 ft away.the sunn is also built better, and you have more speaker options. w/ the 360 you only get the 18" folded horn,
and they are no fun on a 3:00 am load out

(2) a 200s (bassamp) is a great ( no frills) guitar amp.clean + reliable. older low wattage tube bass amps always sound good for guitar. use an ibanez tube screamer and a pedalboard and you'll be a happy camper.
