Hello:
I hate it when I hit return instead of tab.
OK -
I was around in those days you speak of. Remember one thing. A speaker will live longer with a big amp running clean than a smaller one that is clipping. Also I have SPL15R speakers in my sunn cabs and bridge 1200 watts (SPL6800) into each pair of 15's. At 600 watts each these speakers are now 17 years old and still pumpin'. 8118's are not acoustically loaded as well as the cabs I have so they might crash the back plates if driven that hard but they can sure handle the power thermally. When small amps clip the speaker begins to see DC because of the square wave output. This can thermally take out the voice coils. Besides, I love headroom. Any other specific questions you have just ask.
