The Brilliance of SUNN Products and Engineers
« on: December 17, 2001, 02:16:00 pm »
Some people bad mouth Sunn Products and long for the old days,Who doesnt. Look at some of the junk amps out there today.
I own a T50c combo and although its not perfect(nobody is,at least not on this planet)people still are amazed at its features and arent even familiar with SUNN stuff.
1/ They cant get over the genius of the effects loop controls when they see them.
2/ They find that SUNN amps have true channel swithing unlike Marshall. I say to them put two different settings on your marshall while you switch between clean and dirty channels and you still have to walk up and change the settings on a Marshall.
3/ Sunns 1x12 extension speaker! a sixteen Ohm marvel! Why? In the old days you had to blast half stacks and haul em,' In the new days you have people saying turn it down or places are smaller. Now you can put two of these on each side of a half stack because they are 16 ohm and do not create a mismatch and you can use 4 of these per amp load instead of two 8 ohm cabs.
People want stereo on there Marshall and other halfstacks, but why would I want stereo side by side? Whos going to hear it! I would rather have a bunch of 1x12s on each side of the stage and mono or stereo sounds tremendous!.
This speaker can be stacked like a mini full stack, place side by side like a 2x12, or spread out and angled across a stage! and you can 4 of these per amp load! Try and do that with a 2x12! And the Numero Uno reason is you can transport alot of them easily.
4/These speakers are not dinky and at 24" wide will support heads on top if you want to make a mini stack, it even will fit my old JCM 800 Mashall 30" head on top. Try to do that with other 1x12s.
5/ The down side with SUNN: no web site email,no product marketing, not a lot of dealers(Fender took them off their main web site, Kind of jealous arent they!, not much consumer access to past and present products but by God were still holding on and keeping the faith. Sometimes I get the feeling Fender wants Sunn to fail.
So here is a Suggestion to Sunn, Show a picture of 1x12 mini stacks on each side of a stage, spread out across a stage, some angled some straight, and show one on each side of a small venue and I guarantee you could sell a ton of them, But most people dont know they exist, because they are amazed when I start placing them around a stage! What are these Man?, These are cool 1x12s?, Wow you have two mini stacks on each side of the Stage, your stereo sounds fantastic? I feel like Im the best salesman for SUNN sometimes!
5/ Oh one more gripe, I still love my old SUNN concert slave amp for adding more things. I still think they are great to haul instead of a rack amp like an amp head.

Send your post to the "other Fender Products" part of FenderForum.com.

Maybe Fender will wake up a realize that they've got some good stuff here.

Tanx for the mini-review of the single 12 cab. Have been considering it for small gigs.

I have a T50C w/ a 112 extension cab also.  I thought the combo by itself was a little flat sounding - bright, but not as much depth as I would like.  So, I tweaked it here and there - installed a Celestion Lead 80, NOS GE 6L6GC and Mullard ECC83 and now it sounds just beautiful and when I plug in the 112 I cannot believe the depth and power.  Great combo.  (Heavy as a bitch, though - thank God for the casters!)
