Cleaning Grill Cloth

Anyone found a safe and reliable way to get 30 years of smoke out of gill cloth. The cloth itself is perfect, just has dust and smoke stains.

Alternatively, has anyone ever found a source for the 67 - 69 "silver/grey/diagonal - non textured" grill cloth? (Mellotone has the "Fender" style that is used today.)

Don't know if available in your neck of the woods, but that cheese Billy Mayes is pushing some pretty good cleaner on satellite television. My wife washed the drapery in the house that we just bought in this stuff (delicate material) and all of the tar from the previous owners chain-smoking habit disappeared. You'll probably have to unstaple the cloth from the frame of the grill and soak it for a short period of time to do an effective job.

Sounds interesting. I am, of course wary of stuff shrinking, etc.

Got a URL or 1-800 number?

Yeah, I second the nomination of "OXYCLEAN" as one of the safer cleaners to use. Despite the TV infomercial claiming "not available in stores"...it IS. Got mine at Home Depot.
