I recently test drove a used 300T bass head at Daddy's Junky Music.  The amp sounded nice except for a "buzz" that clicked in only when I sustained particular notes (usually on the low E string).  The amp was set on 4-5 master volume and 3-4 on the channel #1 volume.  The buzz souned like something rattling in the interior of the head.  As I said, the buzz clicked in a second or so into the sustain.  I was using an old 1970"'s 215s cab that is in very good working order.  They are asking $729 for the used head,which I think is a little steep considering the buzz, and the fact that I got a quote on a new one at $950.  Anyone have any thoughts on the cause of this buzz, or a fair $ value for this head?

Randy,
I have owned a 300T T for a few months and played a number of gigs with it. I play it with an old Acousic 215 cab with JBL E140 drivers. I love it. It has awsome power and tone. It hass opened new doors in my playing, great distortion eq and compression on the footswitch. I love the tube tone and willing to carry the 80 lbs. I got mine on eBay for 750 plus shipping new. I shure would look into that sound, try it with different speakers to make shure where the sound is coming from. I looked under the hood and found it to have a double sided circit board and solid heavey duty construction.

Hey Randy -

Try the 300T NOT setting on the '70's cabinet.  A space shuttle orbiter will eventually come apart when placed on a vibration table long enough.

I also own the amazing 300t amp. I took 3/8"
rubber and made 4-2" squares and put them under each foot. A possible help that could curb vibration

In the 70's I used to use an Ampeg SVT head that sat directly on an SVT cab. I would eventually get loose tubes or microphonic squeals. After finding a good thick piece of foam for the head to sit on, the problem was solved.

hi i'm new here, my name is marco and i'm from italy, i actually use a SWR sm 400s, but i'd love to try a SUNN 300T, no one carries them here and i am forced to order one without trying, can you please tell me more abut this head, how can it be compared to mine? i play in the style of Bush, Live and i play a Fender MIA Precision bass and a rickenbacker 4001. thanks a lot guys

Marco - I picked up a used 300T in what looks and sounds to be excellent condition.  Let me say that this amp is killer.  Tremendous tone and the volume potential is strong enough to kick you in the chest.  I am really happy with the amp's versatility.  Great combination of things like split compression, EQ, high and low boost, mid notch, a 2nd channel for distortion...I still love my 1967 200s amp the best for tone/sound quality, but the 300T is right up their in tone too, and its headroom is miles above my 200s.  Take the splurge you won't be disappointed.

You mentioned on your original posting (10/24/01) that you had a $950 quote for the 300T.  Where did you find that quote?  I'm in the market for one and want ammo for haggling.  Thanks.

Hi there - I received my original quote of $950 for a brand new 300T from Music Mall Inc. out of Lowell, Massachusetts.  I ended up finding a used one in real good condition at Daddies Junkie Music in Peabody, Massachusetts and grabbed it for $650 (they were asking $730).  Also try Bass Northwest in Seattle, Washington - they quoted me $990 for a brand new $300T.

Merc - congratulations on your purchase!  The 300T is killer.  The guys in my various bands can't believe the sound/tone that come out of the 300T/215s (2x15" JBL K140's) cab set-up.  Nothing I have played matches it.  I had never looked at Guitartrader.com.  The prices look great.  Mabey my next purchase.
