Sunn Studio Lead__Repair questions.
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:54:47 am »
Hello everyone,

Great to see there is a forum for Sunn enthusiasts. I acquired a Sunn studio lead last year. I'm trying to repair it, it's got some nasty sound issues. Basically, it sounds like it's breaking up, especially with the bass up even a little bit, on both the rhythm and lead channels.  I've tested the speakers on a different amp, the speakers sound great, no problem with them and I occasionally use the Sunn as a cabinet and my Seymour Duncan Convertible as a head and speaker. The reverb is not working as well. I can try and make some recordings of it, and I'll give some pictures a shot, only camera I have is on my computer.

Are you experienced/comfortable working on PCBs?

I have no idea as to what PCB's are. I'm comfortable with basic soldering and all, taking stuff apart, putting it back together. I'm totally unexperienced though, but I'm good at figuring stuff out with guidance of course.

Not at all! But I am suggesting that you take it to a qualified tech rather than try to follow repair instructions from an internet forum; unless you are qualified and comfortable working on those types of devices.
It's a safety issue.
