New Old Sunn Concert Lead
« on: March 05, 2014, 04:19:22 am »
Conrad Sundhold  and Sunn were probably one of the very few amp companies that paid attention to how a Solid State  guitar amp sounded compared top their old tube lines. Maybe Kustom to a lesser extent.
THis amp is a world class amp by any standards, and trust me on that, I've got a fair amount of great old tube amplifiers.
Just a flat out great , yeah, great amp , and age has only made it sound better. For the two hundred ten bucks I just spent on it, I consider myself fortunate and this amp is a life time keeper.;

Has anyone recapped one of these units? I haven't opened mine yet, but I found this pic of what I think is teh same amp. I assume all the blue small can caps will need to be replaced. Hopw about the 2 black caps are those the coupling caps, and should they stay?

Anyone know what value the two large multi section cannister capacitors are? ( I have a tech, and I cannot read schematics. I like to arm him with as much info. as possible so he dopesnt have to run around looking stuff up);

That schematic is for a newer Concert Slave with a "totem pole" output stage. Note that the power transformer has only 5 wires. The Concert Lead in the other pic is older with a "bridge drive" output stage. It's power transformer has 8 wires. Those are not multi-section canister caps, they are computer grade single section caps. It will be hard to find exact replacements and what you can find won't be an exact fit. The mounting clamps will need to be replaced. The caps made these days are quite a bit smaller.

The two big black caps are electrolytics. They will need to be replaced. They are probably not original to that amp.

Thanks very much. Also thanks to Issac for input in the 215B cabinet thread.
