Hello Sunn people,

I have an ambitious dream, and I need some of your amazing minds and skill sets to help me figure it out.

In the spirit of the legendary Rolling Stones Mobil Recording Studio, and in the face of our limited funds to afford a proper space in which to record and play Live, I have come across this little beauty...

http://www.converdant.biz/plug-out/

Which I am hoping can allow our band, NWANML (pronounced, New Animal) to play wherever we want, and record as well. The problem is, I am not an electrician, or techi, and can't figure out if any of these can handle the power requirements need for a

Sunn 200s, Supro Dual Tone and or Thunderbolt and or Fender Twin Reverb, PA system (Mackie or similar) and possibly a light or two, macbook pro, apogee thunderbolt ensemble,

I'm asking you guys to recommend one of these models to handle all of this,
recording on location
playing on location

or to inform me that it won't work. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate this. I am good at many things, but this is not my skill set.

thanks,
Dave

A single 15A  circuit should handle the MI amps with the and/or scenario with ease, the question is the PA. What it takes is dependent on how many watts you will actually be using; not necessarily what the output of the system is rated at.
There is 1800 watts potential out of a 15A 120VAC circuit, which doesn't mean you are limited to total PA power amps rated at 1800 watts or less (HOPEFULLY you will rarely be using anywhere near the full output of the amps), but doesn't mean you can run a giant system full tilt on a single 15A circuit.
I run an A&H console, processing rack and four dual monaural Stewart World 2.1's at 8 ohms off of a single 15A circuit in 100-150 fire code venues all of the time without issues, plenty of juice. The amps are pretty much just idling, the only reason I use all 8 amps is that I run stereo bi-amped mains and 4 monitor mixes.
One VERY helpful hint: always run your entire PA rig, board effects amps, etc. on one circuit if at all possible. Look up "ground loop" for details.

So, what specifically are you running for PA power?

On another note Ed,

I have a chance to grab a 312 cabinet for 50$

How do you think it might pair with my 200s and cabinet?

Oops, wasn't paying attention...

So let me make sure I "get it"; are you planning to use a hybrid automobile to power a live band? Right off the bat, kudos for thinking "out of the box"!

2-3 kilowatts should power your gear, but in my limited (as in ZERO) experience of using the generator capacity of a hybrid vehicle for anything other than possibly a short term, emergency AC source seems like a bad idea on the surface.
That type usage wasn't designed into the vehicle by the vehicle manufacturer, and I would bet money that it would void any warranty the vehicle came with from the factory.
For around that kind of money, I would think your best bet would be a dedicated gas powered generator.

Again, all of this "advice" is off the top of my head, I've never even considered researching that concept!

I think any nice 312 cab for $50 is probably a deal, whether or not is sounds good with your rig depends on if YOU like the way it sounds or not. I'd roll the dice, it's only 50 bucks!

All valid points,
My biggest concern was voiding the warranty, and I can't get anyone from converdant to respond. Probably think I'm crazy! they do have a FAQ section addressing this...kind of vague.

I thought it would be a great idea to be able to record and play in various outdoor acoustic locations, in the Spirit of the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio meets digital era. I was just concerned about the power demands of that 200s plus the rest of the band. I think these would be small, hit and run, shows, kind of pop-up concerts all around the area.

I'll keep looking into it and let you know how it ends up.

Thanks for advice!! The 212 cab has PA replacement speakers, but still, I want it. I was just wondering if there are any threads about the sound characteristics. How is it different then 215's? Was it designed more for guitar than bass, and the like?

Yeah, I thought that the Converdant site was strong on sales hype, but very weak on hard info also... Contact the vehicle manufacturer, they will be the entity that ultimately decides whether or not your fried charging system will be covered under warranty.

As I said; I'm going with "No, as soon as that device is installed your powertrain/electrical warranty is voided".

Good idea though!

Smoothwound: 212 or 312? You've mentioned both.
