Nothing lasts forever.

At a recording session Monday, I miced my 200S cabinet. Noticed some distortion. Adjusted this level and that, finally discovering that the source was the lower D140 driver. Fortunately, I have another, but that leaves me with only two good D140s. Time to sell the other 200S cabinet, I guess.

Well, that kinda sucks. Maybe get some reasonably priced replacement drivers to use with the cab, and save your good D140's for special occasions (like those occasions when you feel like removing and replacing about a million cabinet screws...)?

That sux Isaac! I have the two good ones in my 2000S cabinet and one extra good one and thats it. I have the little 1x15 cabinet I put together but that has an E140 in it. I've downsized a lot since I saw you and sold my SVT and cabinet, the 200S and some other stuff. Not too much out there that duplicates the sound of the D140 correctly, though I believe Weber's kits are/were very good. I heard good things about their Neo speakers too but I think they discontinued them or something awhile back. I've kind of been out of it a lot while finishing school the last couple years.

And ultimately, that's the real issue, isn't it? The old D series drivers die (and the K series, too), and there are no proper recone kits, and no new drivers that sound the same. None that I know of, anyway. There's no end of great gear out there, but none that gets the same sound produced by vintage JBLs. Again, none that I know of. I suppose that, if one had enough money to spend, one could contract with Eminence to duplicate the design. That should work, if the same materials are available. But I don't have anywhere near that kind of money.

Oh, well. Waddaya gonna do?
