Cab ID Assistance
« on: October 06, 2015, 08:10:16 pm »
Hello all. Can someone please confirm that the Sunn 1X18 bass cab is also known as the Sunn Coliseum? I had one and sold it. Looked like this: http://johnkvintageguitars.homestead.com/Sunn1x18/sunn1-18cab-1-800.jpg

Now I want to build one and I want to make sure I have the right one. I also need plans for it. Is that something that's available?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

That is a 118M with a Magna speaker or a 118V with a Vega speaker. I've never seen anyone offering plans for such a cabinet.

I've never seen or heard of plans for that cab either, I think the last one sold here was by CLD in '09

but they pop up for sale sporadically on eBay and CL. It's a beast; 30" X 30" X 15" and 115 lbs.

Is John selling his 118S? He's a good guy, and absolutely knows his stuff. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him if that is an option for you.

Thanks EdBass. I'm NC so that's a little far for me. I'll keep my eyes peeled though.

I didn't see an answer to one of your questions. While the 118M and 118V were frequently sold with Coliseum Bass heads, each was its own product. Heads and cabinets were sold separately. So no, neither the 118M nor the 118V was ever called a Coliseum cabinet by Sunn, as far as I know. Even in the catalog, they were shown with both Coliseum heads and with the Model T for tube fans.
