Sunn PA Horns with Fluted Lens
« on: November 20, 2015, 09:17:49 pm »
I played in a Seattle band in the 70's and one of my mentors was the band, City Zu. Their hayday was the mid to late sixties. I remember the horn on their Sunn PA system as having a unique fluted or zigzag kind of lens appearance had a throw that was pretty close to the stage. I thought this was from an early version of the Sunn Concert PA. I would love to buy a pair of these horns or at least see a picture and know what they were really called.

Thanks,

Bill (original member of Clear Logic 1970 through 1975)

The horns weren't really unique, though they were a bit unusual. They were JBL horn/acoustic lens units. I'm pretty sure that they were JBL 2390s, with a 375 driver. This should give you some background on them:

Wow, that takes me back. In my early Junior High days my circle of wanna be rockstars used to call those lenses JBL radiators, and in person they were only encountered  in the serious cover band realm that we all aspired to someday be in; those guys with huge bell bottoms and facial hair that we saw at our Junior High dances...

One of the most fondly remembered times in my life, thanks for the memories!
