Correct Speakers for 2000S Cab, etc???
« on: September 09, 2002, 11:03:00 am »
OK...don't know who else might have one of these cabs to check...My one 2000S cab came with 16 Ohm D140F-6 loaded in it....just picked up another 2000S cab but it's empty. All my old literature says D140F as the correct speakers. Was the "6" models correct for the cab and used to handle the higher output 2000S and the catalogs just didn't differentiate? Did SUNN use BOTH D140F and D140F-6 in the 2000S cabs, depending on the year? All my other SUNN 2x15 cabs (200S bottoms) just have the normal 16Ohm D140F in them.
Also, anyone have/see/confirm if SUNN ever used any of the D140F speakers that were labeled with an 8 Ohm badge at JBL factory but were actual 16 Ohm ones?? I've come across some of these but never in a SUNN.

Sunn listed the JBL's in their 2000S cabinets as JBL D140F speakers, though the D 140F-6 indicates a 16 ohm inpedance. I suspect that since Sunn showed their 2000S amps with 2 2-15 bottoms, that they may, very well, have used 16 ohm versions of the D 140F. This would let users use 2 cabinets, each showing the amp 8 ohms, and only showing the amp 4 ohms when driving 2 cabinets. Since these amps did not have impedance selectors, they switched from 8 ohms with one cabinet connected to 4 ohms when a second cabinet was added.
The Sunn guitar versions (1000S, and 1500S) used the JBL 15S, which was very sinmilar to the JBL D 130F speaker.
