200s poer supply mods?
« on: February 10, 2004, 06:37:38 pm »
I'm recapping a 200s and I've noticed that this chassis has solid state rectifiers instead of the usual GZ34. There is no socket or hole in chassis for the GZ34 so I'm assuming it came from the factory this way?? When did Sunn switch to diode vs tube rectification? I'm going to replace the multi-section cap with a very close replacement. This will require a 40 uF cap in the pie filter instead of the 20 uF capacitor that's there now. (I've noticed that the schematic calls out a 30 uF cap). Obviously someone's done this before with this chassis but the mods look very OEM with all capacitors held by clamps riveted to the chassis, wiring looks orginal as well.

I don't know the answer to your queston, but I am trying to fix the power supply in a 200s myself.

Zack, at Vibroworld (www.vibroworld.com) claims to have the replacement  can-type multicap for the power supply of this amp (the three 20 mf and one 30 mf caps).  I ordered one, but haven't seen it yet.  The last person that worked on the amp I have, kludged a bunch of caps together when it was recaped, and it just isn't working right.
