Test date stickers

Banner day! I recieved a coliseum 880 today in "time warp" condition! I'm like a kid at christmas! Test date sticker inside:9/11/74.  Are test date stickers reliable indicators of date of manufacture or were units built and possibly sat around until orders were filled and then tested? Got a coliseum lead today as well with test date:7/15/71. Good general condition but reverb is shot.

Hello:
The test date is a real good indicator. Units went to QC test right after assembly, then to sound test and finally packaging. Usually within a few days of that date.
It's the ear not the gear.

Thanks for info. I have a 2000s and got the guts to remove the chasis to see exactly how old it was.(Don"t want to monkey with it unless I absolutely have to) No test date sticker. Almost what looks like red nail polish paint with which is written 12-10-68 and an initial that looks like JL. Not too interesting but kind of cool to see. Is JL still around and playing on a sunn? Let's hope so!

Hello:
I work there during the BS era. That's Bill Stahlen the sound test guy who we called "golden ears."

That's fine, but who is JL?

It would be interesting to know if anyone on here might know who worked at sunn with those initials. Might be too obscure or forgotten. I enjoy the feeling of hunting down history though.
