Sunn2000s power transformer
« on: April 04, 2006, 03:35:25 pm »
Hi All,
I need to replace the power transformer in my Sunn2000s bass amp. It's a 1969-70 model which is all tube, power, preamp & rectifier. I haven't been able to find a replacement for it yet. Does anyone know how to get the specific electrical information needed to get a replacement? One transformer manufacturing company I emailed needed more specific information in order to help me. I have checked out many sites of SUNN enthusiests with no results so far.

Thanks for any help, Dan V.

Try Mercury Magnetics ( http://www.mercurymagnetics.com/ ), they list a "Tone Clone" 2000S early 70's PT that ought to work. You can contact them to make sure. If not, they will rewind your busted one to original spec for about a million dollars.

Yea I know about MM already. Way too expensive.
I don't have the origional power transformer, I bought the 2000s as is on ebay & was unaware at that time that it was the wrong transformer.
    Thanks anyways  Dan

I believe Dynaco's part number was PC-706.  Ned at Triode might have the specs for it, but they don't offer replacements for the four-tube amps.

Yes, I spoke to the guys at Triode & they were helpful with the specs but they donot have a suitable replacement. I'm checking out the Holland transformers at partsexpress.com. They have a couple that have similar specs.
Thanks for the help everyone, Dan

i just put one in mine last year, and mercury magnetics was the only choice.  sucks , but that is the way it is... with the new tranny, my 2000s is AMAZING.

You could try Magnequest too...might be a little cheaper than Mercury Magnetics if they have it.

Ned isn't at Triode anymore and hasn't been for several months. Apparently he had a falling out with the owner and left and started up his own thing.
