Beta Lead Line Out for Recording
« on: November 06, 2006, 12:38:15 am »
Hello, I have a Beta Lead and I very much like the sound, but am not knowledgable in the area of amps/cabinets/etc.

I would like to record direct into my computer box(I have a soundcard for recording) as I do not have a microphone yet.
So would plugging into my recording tecknowledgies from the master line out of my beta lead be completely safe and be the correct thing to do?

I'm quite confused about it because I swear I've read yes DO THAT! and NO NEVER EVER DO THAT YOU WILL KILL YOUR AMP!

...and if this plugging in through the master line out is the correct thing to do should/would the sound still come out of the cab as well?

Thanks.

P.S. I love the sound of this amp. I can't believe how great it sounds completely on its own, I've spent more money on stompboxs than on this amp and now I've discovered how pointless that was. Thank you Sunn...

Yes, plugging into the master accessory out will give you a line level signal for recording.  Using this jack will allow the sound to come out of the cab.

If you want to silence the cab, use a shorting plug in the master accessory input jack.

Hey Thanks JoeArthur

I've just tried it out. The recording box gets a good signal, but no sound comes out of the cab. I have nothing connected to the master line in so I was wondering if this was normal and if it is in anyway damaging to my amp?

I would rather have it come out of the cab and through the line out, it's fine if this is not possible though I should work on getting a mic.
Thanks.

if this is any help the lights still light up and there is no audible small hiss like usual through the cab. Just no sound at all.

...and actually there is still a signal through the line out when its plugged in but still nothing through cab unplugged from the line out or not.

Hmm.  Maybe try a splitter, and return half the signal?  That would give you a lower signal at your recording gear however.

Plug a connecting cord between the master accessory output and the master accessory input.

If you get the normal hiss and/or signal out of the cab, then the master accessory input jack, which is a shorting jack should have it's contacts cleaned.

Thanks! The amp is working and sounding great again. ...its been a while.

A Splitter does work(had one sitting around), but yeah the signal is horrible... I'll just get a mic soon.
