You're right, they play with Verellen Amps now (http://www.verellenamplifiers.com/customers.html).
The pic I added is one of their previous rigs (taken in 2006 I think).

"I've never loved a guitar amplifier as much as my Verellen Custom Head. From quiet to roaring loud this beautiful piece of work holds rock solid no matter what you play through it. I am proud to have one of the first few in production and cannot wait to get my hands on my next Verellen "Coop" 50watt. Ben has put some serious thought and love into the product and stands by every piece created all the way, taking care of you until you're happy. Trust me, you'll only come back for more. I've also demoed the Meat Smoke and i would choose that head over any Sunn Model T, SVT Classic, or Marshall Superbass any day. That amplifier will destroy anything in it's path and crush minds with guitar or bass. Verellen Amplifiers and Cabs were created to last and only satisfy your every need. I don't care to play anything else."

Wow.  I'd like to try one out.  In fact, I'd like to own one if I had the money.  Pretty strong words, kind of.

Funny.  I kept on reading the reviews and one comes from a guy who plays in a band Bosque.  Only funny cuz I know the singer/bass player of that band.  Small world.

I don't think this picture has been posted yet:

Early, Early Kiss, actually, at the time I think they were known as Wicked Lester.

Looks like a 1000s series, most likely a 2000s from the four knobs, and the fact that it looks like there's another guitar amp to the right.

A humorous sidebar to the Sunn 0))) debate. A little while back, I brought a Coliseum head in to the tech at the good local music shop. (I couldn't figure out where the new hum was coming from after I put the innards back in the case. Genius here had reversed the wires to the reverb.)

When I was picking it up, a young guy and his attractive girlfriend came over. He was admiring the amp, asked when it was made and if I had owned it since 1971 etc. Then he asked "Do you play in a stoner band"

Before I could answer, his companion barked out "NO!"  So I asked her "You mean I don't look like I play in a stoner band?" (Just because I'm over 50 with short hair, doesn't mean...uh...)  Once again "NO!"

The guys behind the counter jumped in "Sure he does!" and "He's the king of the stoner scene."  The girl was not persuaded: "HE DOES NOT!"

Ah well....

Here we go again!

At just before the 27 second mark the picture is visible, and way off to the right is what appears to be a larger model Sunn (1000s or 2000s) sitting atop a marshall full-stack. Also, the cabinet directly below the SVT is a Sunn.

Wow this was actually a sad thread. Lots of people bashing Sunn for their talentless drones which are not music, or whatever. Very close minded to call someone's creation not music and talentless.   The ultimate peaceful person sees but does not criticize, because they realize it is pointless and hypocritical.

Is not the conception of music the majority of the creative process while physically playing it is the secondary, easier part? Sit on the corner of your bed and play guitar for 6 hours per day, you'll be a good player, but you're probably not being too unique because you're just running through the guitar licks Van Halen and a billion people already did forever. Try to conceptualize something unique that tries to go beyond the accepted creative spectrum and use guitars and amplifiers in a new way. Can you? I sure as hell basically can't.

Whenever I hear people complain about bands that are "bad" I always think in my mind "What have you done and why is it legitimate? Is it legit beacuse it 'fits in?' Why should anyone's creative process ever be deemed legitimate or illegitimate? Why are you for some reason an authority on 'good' and 'bad?'"

As other people have said, Sunn, and a billion other bands that do experimental music, are trying to do something interesting, not just play the same chords that everyone has played since guitar was invented. It's so sad how people jump on you for doing something that's not "normal." Do you realize you are negating people who are trying to go outside of the normal musical spectrum? Isn't this how every genre of music ever was created? Would you criticize hard bop when it was played for the first time, or kraut rock, or funk, or heavy metal? Was that 'not music' at first? Do you criticize scientists and engineers who try to innovate and bring something new to the world, whether conceptually or physically?? Do you prefer stagnancy and redundancy?

For the record Sunn is not innovating in that they are creating drone, as others have said drone music has been around forever (ragas, for expample), but they are certainly pushing the limits of drone, and incorporating lots of dreariness, volume, and metal into it, which I think is cool. The guitar has been played every which way; they don't care. They are playing amplifiers. The whole point of that band is the total musical experience, physical, aural, and visual. Whether you enjoy it or not is a personal feeling, to say it is bad or illegitimate or "not music" is in my mind self righteous.
