Grill Cloth
« on: January 02, 2008, 09:59:41 am »
Does anybody know of a source for the 1967/'68/'69-style black/silver/white Sunn grill cloth (with the subtle diagonal pattern)?

This question comes up now and again, but, as far as I know, no one has ever found a source.

Darn!  But thx ... I was afraid that was probably the case.  I have a '68 Traynor head with what appears to be identical cloth.  Will snoop around on the Traynor front to see if anything turns up there.

My '67  has a diagonal weave while all the pictures I see of '69's have verticale weaves. The one on Ebay is vertical. I have not been able to find the diagonal weave myself.

Thx for the replies on the early grill cloth issue.  Still haven't come up w/anything but will give a holler if I do.  BTW, Basiklybass mentions '69s as having the later vertical pattern, which is partially correct.  I have two Solarus heads, one bearing the chassis date of 5/22/69 and the other 8/1/69, which both have the earlier diagonal-weave fabric.  This would pretty much support what I have consistently read that Sunn made the changeover in late '69.

Cheers!

Jbopper; Not surprised to hear that, as I understand it, the year the catalog is for and the year the amp was made do not mean the amp is what the catalog shows....or that you could even buy what was in the catalog. As far as actually remembering what they looked like in '69....I can't and the pictures of our band from then are not clear enough to show what cloth they had.

I bought about 4 yards of the verticle weave stuff and just changed everything to match. Don't tell anyone, OK?

Here is the old look;
