newbie with some questions!
« on: July 21, 2008, 04:04:07 pm »
Hey sunn people!

I'm new to Sunn so a few questions for you pros

I just bought a concert lead (silver and black) with 6x10 cab and I play bass. My last rig was a Kustom K200 w/ 2x15 CTS cab so it had alot of bottom but no mids or highs.
Now the questions!

What is the make of the speakers? (sliver caps with a cloth center)
Is this cab really meant for bass?
Is there anyway I can port this cab?
How much low end would it add?
Can the cab make tacos?
What would be a good replacement speaker?
What is the RMS rating on the head?
Is the Concert bass the same as the Lead?
Can the head make tacos?
Is there a good replacement for a footswitch?

Sorry for being long winded
Thanks

Hi there kbass, what you have is a very loud Guitar Rig.The old silver/black Concert's put out 150 wrms @ 2 ohms I believe. The cab.has guit. 10's in it so I'd be careful running it full range, esp.with a 5 str.bass.Bi-amping it would be cool,6 x 10's would be nice on the top end.If you try to port the cab.,you'll just end up wrecking it so I wouldn't advise it.Hope this is of some help, good luck Mel.

To answer your questions, in order:

The speakers were originally Sunn 108 guitar Transducers.
No.
None that I know of, and I wouldn't recommend it.
I don't think it would add low end at all.
No, but if you crank it, you should be able to really cook!
I don't know.
150 watts into 4 ohms.
The power amp section is, but the preamp section is different. For one thing, the Lead has two channels.
Yes.
There's nothing special about the footswitch. I use one that came with a Peavey practice amp.

I would imagine some eminence 10" drivers would suffice. You could do the following to make the cabinet 8ohm's instead of 6ohm's.

4 - 4ohm in series (16ohm) then wired in parallel with 2 - 8ohm in series (16ohm) and that would give you a 8ohm load.I my self recently picked up a 610S and have been thinking of doing this and using it along side my 215S powered by my 190B.

I believe I saw a tutorial online on how to convert your Concert lead & 610 cabinet into a convection oven and taco stand.

Truthfully, I would like to make your rig mine, and thusly will suggest that it's no good for what you're doing(all that work for tacos?  I'll throw in a few boxes of Old El Paso taco kits!), and to ship it to me.  Agreed?  Excellent.  Good!

Hmm, no?  Well, I can dream, right? :)
