Concert lead question.
« on: July 31, 2008, 01:08:41 pm »
Just got a concert lead (silver face, 2 channels, red treble boost switches).  First off I am just curious of what year this model was made.  Second, I am running the head into two 8ohm 4x12 cabs... Everything seems to be fine except the head is getting pretty warm after 45 min or so. When I say warm I mean if you touch the back of the amp for a few seconds it will burn ya.  Anyway, is it normal for the head to get this warm?  Just worried that it may self destruct soon...

The eternal question...If someone would be kind enough to do a color (red, silver, etc.) rundown of years, I would be grateful.

Anyone?  I have a show tomorrow night and i really need to know it the amp is suppose to get extremely warm...  The ampeg gets a little warm but the sunn just seems to be getting to warm to me. I wouldn't want any capcitor leakage to go on in there or anything.  So someone please help!

Hi there, there is a thermal breaker on the heat sink,it should cut out if the amp gets to hot.I suppose there is a chance it's bad,but they usually stay open as opposed to being shorted on.You're running the amp @ 4 ohms,so it's going to heat up for sure.I think I'd put a fan on it and try that.Hope this is of some help,Mel.

4ohms should be ok.  I think safe minimum for those amps is 2.  could be wrong.  I run mine at 4ohms but it's only pushing a 212.

No, the silver and black Concert amps were rated down to 4 ohms, not 2.
