Hello,
Ya don't want a bluddy second generation Model T. You want a first gen Model T, no mid switch. This amp is a blend of 66 Fender Bassman(tone control-preamp wise) and a Marshall/HiWatt/Sunn 2000S(output wise, 4 x 6550 tubes). It IMHO is the finest amp of its type. Get one, I have owned mine since 1978, spent only $150 on filter caps) it is a 1973 Model. Originally bought as a "universal" back-up for bass or guitar. LOUDEST GUITAR AMP I have ever heard(thru 4 JBL D-130's it just screams) and sound exquisite for bass as well. Mine was bought for $325! You will pay $1000 minimum for a minty, vinty one like mine...like more like $1300! 35 years old still kicks A$$. Get one. I was gonna by a steenking MAGNAVOX (Ampeg) SVT but forget that piece of Shi*ite, Gonna get another Model T instead and go Stereo with 2 "T's" into 2 Sunn 200S cabs loaded with a total of 4 JBL K-140's. I go Boom now.
Peace and Happiness to ya !!
Being fairly new to Sunn amps and more familiar with the topography of Fender and early Marshalls, I was surprised when I looked for the schematic for my '70 1200S. I couldn't find the exact schematic, so I looked at the Model T.
http://schematicheaven.com/newamps/sunn_model_t.pdfI was trying to find soemthing with the dual GZ34 rectifier set-up like my amp has. In looking at the 1200S and the Model T, I found that they are very similar amps, and they resemble the 5F6A Tweed BAssman much more than they do the '66 Bassman.
The AB165(which is the scheme for the '66) has the tone controls in between the first two gain stages thereby losing a lot of gain to those functions. The 5F6A has two stages of gain before the tone controls. The 5F6A was the basis for the first Marshalls, and it would appear that Sunn built some hi-power versions of that topography. I was surprised with the warmth of this Sunn even though it uses 6X12" speakers with metal dust covers. My amp has the MId Boost, and I find it very handy. Without the boost, the amp more closely resembles the 'BF' sound. With the Boost in, it reverts back to the tweed thing....albeit very loud.
The AB165 Bassman does have good gain compared to other BF Fenders. That is because it has two complete gain stages after the tones and this makes it a fairly hot amp to my ear. IT is not very similar to the tweed 5F6A, the early Marshalls or these Sunn amps.
Dreworg, it is regrettable that you are across the pond. I would try to talk you into listening to this big rig I have. IT is essentially the Model T with reverb and trem...at least that is what I see on quick look at the schematics.
