SUNN 2000S
« on: December 05, 2008, 03:51:01 am »
Hi guys,

Probably I have the chance to buy a SUNN 2000S original vintage!

I own a sunn model T reissue and I think I would probably change it for an original vintage sunn amplifire.

The question is: is SUNN 2000S good for guitar, or I better wait to buy another sunn amp? Considering that in Italy is hard to find these amplifiers...anyway I'll contact the seller and arrange a try with this..

Byee!

Hi,

I just saw the 2000S on e-bay.it.

The 2000S was sold as a bass amp, and it's really tasty for bass. :-D Because of it's construction the Sound is quite HIFI. I got a 350B (updated 2000S with solid state rec.) and we tried it out with a guitar (LGX with 4X12" Marshall) and it was really (much) too HIFI for us. We couldn't get the mids or the low mids of the guitar. Maybe some poeple like this sound, but it was not my taste (we do some end 60s...70s Krautrock stuff, so quite a "classic" or "vintage" rock sound).
There is a SUNN 1000S guitar amp (and it's smaller brother 100S), an "update" called 1200S which I've never heared live - I have heard a MODEL T once, I think it was from 1974/75 and this was really amazing / fantasic for guitar (you can find all amps and their discription in the musem on this page).

Greetings

Oliver

Hi,

I'm just a bass player. I did hear the Model T with a Les Paul, it was not too Hifi, got a good bottom. There has been a long discussion KT88/6550 on this page. You can use the KT 88 and the 6550 as they are (nearly) the same tubes. You can check out a tube-datalist, there are plenty of them in the www.

By the way: I live just across the alps...it was no problem to get the SUNN amps here. The big one (Sunn 2000S, 1000S etc) are quite expensive with their weight (> 20kg no DHL or UPS.. just Fedex). I think the small amps are very interesting as they do have "just" 60W RMS but you can crank them even on a small stage without beeing too loud!

If you want to get some info abot P&P to Europe please feel free to contact me.

Greetings

Oliver
