Just thinking, the first stage is the highest gain and the most vulnerable.  (Of course vulnerability is a function of length of the connection and whether or not it is in the bundle.)

But, I was thinking the very first input from the jack could be shielded by the wire wrap method.  Perhaps a single or twisted 2 or 3 telephone company wires wrapped on the bare wires.

Also, would it be equivalent to say shield the signal path in place of the grids?

Yes the first stage is the most susceptible to hum and noise, but shielding by the wire wrap method won't really get you much if anything. Go ahead and try it if you like, but I think you'll find it isn't worth the time. The way it is designed in the Sunn with the resistors from the input going right to the socket doesn't leave much room for improvement. The only possible improvement really would be to shorten the leads of the resistors so that the body of the resistor is right up to the socket, but we're talking very small improvements here.

Yes it is equivalent to say shield the signal path instead of the grids.....same thing except where a cathode follower or a cathodyne inverter is involved since the signal comes out of the cathode on those.
