I'm new here!
« on: May 19, 2009, 01:49:20 pm »
Hey there guys,

I'm Tom, 18. I've been playing bass for about 6 years now, studying for my A-levels on a Nato Military Bass in Germany. I've come into possession of a Sunn Amp head, and I'm now looking for a cab to go with it!

Welcome to the forum!  This is a good one, where you'll be able to get a lot of information and good advice.

Which Sunn head did you get? That'll help us determine some good cabinets for it.

Cheers for the welcome dudes!

It's a Sunn Concert Bass Head. I don't know much about Heads and Cabs, but I think this is it's power rating: AC Outlet 120vac 200w
120vac200w

First of all, you have a strong, solid amplifier in a Concert Bass.  Second of all, the Concert is built to handle one or two 4 ohm cabs.  It's a good choice!

Regarding cabinets, a lot depends on the kind of sound you want, TOR.  If you want a full, boomy sound, a folded horn cabinet such as a 118MH is just the ticket.  If you want something with a little more range and articulation, a 215 is a great cabinet.  (My personal favorite, at least.)  While many players today like the sounds of 410 bass cabinets, which only came out with the Sunn brand after Fender bought the company, I haven't heard any I liked other than Ampeg's SVT-410HLF and PR-410HLF.  My recommendation is to look for a 215; be sure to get a 4 ohm cab not an 8 ohm.

Here's a really helpful site you might check out, it consolidates listings on Ebay and Craigslist nationwide, so maybe you can find one within driving distance of your home:

Happy hunting!

Cheers for the words!

So something like this with my Amp head would be good? http://phoenix.en.craigslist.org/cph/msg/1141858143.html

I think the 215 is something I'd be interested in, so I'll keep an eye. I'm browsing through that Link you gave me, and I keep seeing Cabinets "With JBL" speakers. What are Jbl Speakers?

Cheers!

Back then, JBL speakers were the best speakers money could buy.  Many say they still are.

Glad to see the site back up!

The guy I'm probably buying the 215 from isn't answering my emails  :-(
I don't know how many watts the amp is, but I know its 4ohms.
