Somebody got a GREAT deal on a tremendous piece of history IMO... Not too long ago orphaned heads were bringing close to that by themselves.
I hope the lucky winner actually
gigs with it!
I dragged one of my 2000S rigs out this weekend, played a festival on Fri. and an "until 2:30" gig on Sat. at a club where local musicians tend to hang out when they are off. It's outdoor festival season around here, and a lot of bands shut down at 11:00 pm. By 12-12:30 there were maybe 3 or 4 working bass players in the room. I was running un-mic'ed (well, there
was a mic in front of my cab, but the sound man had me totally out of the mix and had been scowling at me from the first set
), and letting the old amp really sing. By the 3rd set the 2000S had it's own fan club gathered in front of my side of the stage, and believe me, it
wasn't to hear my "stellar" playing!
On break one a few guys came up to see the amp up close, and of the younger guys was looking around for my something, and finally asked me where my processor was. I held up my cable and said "here it is". That got a good laugh.
There are a lot of real good, very portable bass rigs available now days, and on paper they will flat crush the old Sunn, but there is nothing that can duplicate the sound of a JBL loaded 2000S rig in the "sweet spot". Sweet mid and highs, and moving air on the bottom like a Class 5 Hurricane.
I wish it wasn't such a pain in the *ss to move!
