68 solarus maintenance
« on: June 14, 2009, 04:53:08 pm »
my 68 solarus 40watt all-in-one hasn't been turned on in about 4 years. previous to that it had been warmed up and played for a couple hours at least once a year. throughout it has been kept in a case and in a favorable environment.

i'm getting ready to get this guy spittin licks again but i want to make sure that when i flip the switch the thing doesn't burn out on me.

what kind of check list should i have to give this thing a good once over? all of the internals look like they just got wired up, and there is minimal tarnish on the exposed metal sheet that everything is mounted to.

the 5AR4 tube (if your looking from behind it's above the fuse and to the far left) is blown so i'm replacing it. any suggestions as to what i should replace it with?

also one of the covers for the 12AV7A is missing and i'm looking to replace both. these are the preamp tubes correct? i believe my guitarist's orange rockerverb 100 has the same covers, and if this is the case should i just contact and orange distributor for a replacement?

is there any other areas where i should look for wear and tear?
