WTB Sunn Beta Lead
« on: June 24, 2009, 03:30:44 pm »
I am looking to buy a Sunn beta lead. Either a combo or just the head. Working or non-working. Let me know if you have anything out there. It's hard to find these things. Haha.

Don't suppose you are in the Boston/New Engand area by chance?
I've got a Sunn Beta Lead Combo 2x12 that I'm planning on listing locally on Craigs list in the near future. Was planning on selling it locally as I don't want to deal with shipping etc. (I'm in Gloucester, MA)

Nope. Unfortunately I am not. I live on the other side of the country.....Oregon. How much were you going to sell it for though?

$400. Just saw one go for $200 on ebay (local pick up), but historically they seem to go for $300 to $500 and I heard word (not confirmed) that they can go for as high as $1000. At $400 it might take a while to find someone who really wants one, but I don't need to sell it immediately.

Did you (or anyone else here) have an opinion of what one might be worth? Just curious if I'm in the ball park. If I list and get no responses though that would be a pretty good indication that my expectations are unrealistic!

I often admit that I'm not real savvy about Solid State gear, and I'm perplexed by this one; I have a Beta Lead combo with 4 tens that I got in trade a couple of tears ago, but it also has a tweeter in the middle.
Any ideas what that is all about? I have no use for it, but have never researched the market as far as selling price. This thread just reminded me about it...

Ya. I have seen them go for 300-500. But I have heard of people getting really lucky and buy one for like 50 bucks. Haha. I wish I was that guy. There is one up where I live. But it's 500. Waiting for him to reply.

Ed,  I'm no expert, but I suspect that what you have is somewhat rare
(especially in the condition that looks to be in).
But, also, if you need a thread to remind you that you have it then you have entirely too much Sunn Gear and you should just ship some of it to me immediately so you can keep track of what you have. LOL

imgettingcloser: Excellent - Congratulations! Post a pick or two when you get a chance...

Ed: I noticed your foot switch has two buttons. Mine has three (Both Channels/A-B Channel Select/Reverb). Any idea what's up with that? I just "assumed" all Beta's would have had the same foot switch... Which buttons are on yours?

Oh heck, been one more thing I've been curious about  (might was well continue the hijack since imgettingcloser got his amp!). Did these amps come with covers? Mine has one that fits real nice, but not sure if its just a standard size off the shelf deal, or if came with the amp originally.

Needs some TLC. But everything works perfectly. First thing on the list of things to do is to clean it up a bit. Then make a DIY footswitch. Unfortunately I missed out on a Sunn Beta Lead in the same shape with a footswitch for 250.

I think the phrase “you have entirely too much Sunn Gear” is an oxymoron!
As I have said, I’m a tube kinda guy, but I got this thing in a multi amp deal. I took it to a tech for a once over, wrote a description and took pictures of it to put it on eBay, and then took it to a guitar player buddy’s house and dropped it off for him to check out. I never put the listing up, and sort of forgot it was at his studio.
That was in the spring of ’06, and it’s still there.  I may actually list it now!
I am curious about it though, I think I’ll post this in Q&A and see if anybody has any clue as to the piezo and two button footswitch anomalies.

I'm pretty sure Sunn has always offered covers as an accessory, so there may be a few floating around.

imgettingcloser; Nice Score!

The Beta Bass didn't have reverb so it's footswitch has only two switches. They use the same connector and the Beta Bass has one unused pin. The reverb control just shunts the reverb signal to ground. I'm not sure if a shielded wire is required or not. If anyone has a Beta Lead footswitch, open up the box and look for a shielded cable on the reverb switch.

Ed...nice looking Beta Lead. Mine doesn't have the tweeter in the middle. I wish I had the footswitch as well. And what is this "Too much sunn gear" they speak of ?!
