changing ohms on a 3x12

ive got a 3x12 sunn cab with 16 ohm speakers.  ive read online that they are 6 ohms,  but im guessing if theyre run parallel thats means its really 5.33 ohms.  ive got a sunn sceptre head that has an output of either 8 or 16 ohms. i want to run it through the cab so i was thinking of taking out one of the speakers (one is blown anyway) and replacing it with an 8 ohm.  so my question is: Can i run the 2 16 ohm speakers parallel then add the 8 ohm in a series?  can this be done, and would it then be a 16 ohm cab?

Simple answer: yes.

More complex answer: the 8 ohm driver will draw twice as much power as the 16 ohm drivers. As they are all in the same internal air volume, they will interfere with each other to some extent. With luck, this won't be a problem. On the plus side, if you mount the 8 ohm driver in the center position, it forms a 16-8-16 array, which should work fairly well. I'd try it.
