Hey, those Kustom amps weren't bad.  Considering how bad solid-state became in the 1970s, and the poor image it had relative to tubes, it's amazing to me in hindsight that Kustom made solid-state sound so good in the 1960s!  Right here in the midwest!

Hi, I just saw this add on craigslist:

JBL E140-8 – 8 Ohm15” Woofer $120 CAD
JBL K130-8 - 8 Ohm15” Woofer $120 CAD
Peavey 1505-8DT - 8 Ohm Black Widow driver $110 CAD

Could I use both the E140 and K130 in my reissue 215 cab? if it's the same impedance, would different watt value matter?

thanks...!

Power handling - the "different watt value" thing - is not an issue. In general, I'm not a fan of mixing different drivers in the same cabinet, but lots of people have done so with no ill effects, and these should be more closely matched than many combinations people have used. I think it should be fine.

ok thanks, one is sold already so I'll have look somewhere else. I prefer using to similar speaker too.

I found this: JBL 2205h 150w 8ohm 6-8 cub ft volume enclosure for 125$/each and JBL 2225h 400w 8ohm 3-10 cub ft, the guy as plenty of them he said...?

does the enclosure volume of the cab has to be respected exactly or is there a tolerance without risking damaging the speakers?

my cab has 7.3 cub ft enclosure volume

JBL 2205h 6-8 cub ft
JBL 2225h 3-10 cub ft

the Sunn 215 I want to put new speakers in:

www.sunnamps.com/pdfs/manuals/bass/Sunn_215.pdf

And here's a nice spec library I've found for vintage JBL speakers:

http://lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/specs/pro-comp/pro-comp.htm

a big thanks for any help!

Ok I finally ordered two Eminence Big Ben 8ohm 225w for the 2x15 blackbeast, I should receive/install them tomorrow!

I also got a pair of Eminence Wizard 16ohm for the Sunn 2x12 open-back, I always get surprise how loud and how much bottom it has.

Hi, I finally decided to swap them in my 2 1x15 Sunn cabinet to use them with a Solarus head.
They are a bit more low mid speakers since they are guitar 15'' speaker and they have an easy breakup that gives the throaty dark tone.

I needed to build a real bass rig with the 215 so I've put some real bass speaker Legend CB15, 300w each instead. These are made to handle my punisher P-bass low as AEAD, they still need some breakin but they keep getting better with a massive low-end and they can get out some cutting mids depending how you eq your instrument. on guitar they're good to shake the all drum kit...haha.

In the end, if you use the 215 for guitar the Big ben could do a great job. hope it helps.

Ok so I can recommend the Eminence Legend CB158 a lot! (around 120$CAD each):

http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Legend_CB15

their's also the LEGEND CA154 for a bit cheaper (around 85CAD$ each),

http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Legend_CA154

I had them in a vintage Traynor 2x15 cab and it sounded nice but not as massive as the CB158.

my bassist used my Sonaro/215 cab bass rig yesterday with LPB-1 max into a Bass Big Muff also maxed with bass boost engage both on the pedal and on the Sonaro amp(maxed at 10) and we just nail that ultimate sludge bass tone we were looking for! no muddyness just some deep fuzz growl...!

you can check that price list to get an idea, this were I order my Eminence speakers.
