Help! Spekaer configuration for SL-160
« on: December 10, 1999, 12:40:00 pm »
I just bought a Sunn SL-160 60 Watts Combo. Sepaker
is missing (or speakers) - the output cable and their
signals indicate that they were connected to 2 speakers,
a speaker with double voice coil or a duplex speaker
(one for channel one, another - channel two).

Please advise!

Thanks,
Kris

Hello Kris:
  SL160 amps had just one speaker(81-0126 8ohm). SL260 had 2 speakers(81-0226 16ohm). However at that time Terry White the marketing manager also wanted them available with Celestion and I believe that they could be special ordered that way. That might explain why yours are missing. The sales brochures show the speakers with brite metal dust caps which would not be the 81-0126 speaker. These pictures were most likely of prototype models having the "old" style speakers.

Thanks, Don, but...

There are 3 wires coming out of the amp to be connected
to speakers: 1 ground wire and 2 wires for speaker (or speakers)
connection. One wire is controlled by channel one volume
control, the second one is controlled by channel two
volume control. This is why I thought two speakers
are needed for SL-160 (not SL-260). I installed a replacement 12"
speaker in the amp and volume control for channel 2 is not necessary unless there
is another speaker (a tweeter?).
Any suggestion?
Thanks!
Kris

Kris;
 As far as I know the SL 160 had one speaker. The ground wire was for grounding the speaker frame to reduce reverb feedback. The channels were input switching only (for different sounds) and there is only one power amp section (60 watts). Unless someone did major mods to your amp there should be a twisted pair (white & black) and the ground (either green or black). This is the way they were produced if that doesn't match then who knows?????

Hello Kris;
 I just happen to think that you probably don't have a foot switch to switch between channels 1&2. That might explain no channel 2

Thankyou, Don!

Now everything is clear and I know how to deal with
it. I do not have a channel switch, but that
explains it all. The speaker  will be wired
correctly over the weekend.
Thankyou again!

Kris
