Hi All;
Thanks for all the positive response and happiness for the big rig!
Re: Doc from Back to the Future...."OK, Marty!!!"
Re: impedance matching---the '67(?) box is correct D140f 16 ohm in parallel. The '68 (or '69() has a pair of 8 ohm K140s in parallel for 4 ohm. I know the head breathes MUCH BETTER when properly loaded based on the 4 ohm cab in the ext speaker 4 ohm jack.
Currently, the best wire-up was 8 ohm in spkr & 4 ohm in ext. The 4 ohm cab is a little louder (a little) either because of the lesser resistance Or the K series drivers. I will keep an eye peeled for a pair of D 140Fs I can get or swap for. (I have PA uses for the K 140s).
When I got the cab, the domes looked JBL, not shiny after-market ones, but my heart sank when the 9V battery test made the cones jump OUT-JBLs should jump INWARD when pos goes to red post.
I was so excited to see the proper grille in fair condition that all that did not matter. When I got back to Portland, I opened the '67 box up and they had it wired tip to black terminal....OK, I'm good now, but all the 4 hour drive was plagued as you could imagine. My friend still recones 140s w NOS JBL kits (he is great and does beautiful work), but there are some aftermarket kits (Walden for one) that have no tone or power capacity.
Even w/ an improper load, the rig has more power and tone than I could possibly use---I guess that's the goal...D140Fs will surface someday, they were very common in PA usage in the NW.
I had no idea about Logo Plates and that stuff...you guys are serious about this stuff...Thank You!!!
