Very cool, Gavin,

LOVE the 2000S! The harder you push it, the better it sounds.

There's something unbeatable/magical about the shine of speaker domes thru grill cloth.... nice job.

I noticed the speaker cabinets have mismatched badges. Do the cabinets have the same black plastic jack cups on the back? Take a look at the picture I posted in this thread:  http://sunn.ampage.org/sdp/index.php/topic,4099.0.html

I think the #3 badge is older, around 67 and the #1 badge is 68 to mid 69.

I like this set up.  I've always been a bigger fan of wider than higher.  Cool pictures.  You look like Doc from Back To The Future.   :-D

That's a really old 2000S... no bass boost.

Gavin, did you match the impedances?

 The cab on the right in the picture has the older Sunn name plate as the lettering is thinner. It matches the one on my 67 amp.  The one on the left has the thicker lettering but no registration "R" in a circle...so I would agree that it must be a 68.  Either way it's a great looking rig and I bet it cranks.

Hi All;

  Thanks for all the positive response and happiness for the big rig!
Re: Doc from Back to the Future...."OK, Marty!!!"
  Re: impedance matching---the '67(?) box is correct D140f 16 ohm in parallel. The '68 (or '69() has a pair of 8 ohm K140s in parallel for 4 ohm.  I know the head breathes MUCH BETTER when properly loaded based on the 4 ohm cab in the ext speaker 4 ohm jack.
  Currently, the best wire-up was 8 ohm in spkr & 4 ohm in ext.  The 4 ohm cab is a little louder (a little) either because of the lesser resistance Or the K series drivers.  I will keep an eye peeled for a pair of D 140Fs I can get or swap for.  (I have PA uses for the K 140s).
  When I got the cab, the domes looked JBL, not shiny after-market ones, but my heart sank when the 9V battery test made the cones jump OUT-JBLs should jump INWARD when pos goes to red post.
I was so excited to see the proper grille in fair condition that all that did not matter.  When I got back to Portland, I opened the '67 box up and they had it wired tip to black terminal....OK, I'm good now, but all the 4 hour drive was plagued as you could imagine.  My friend still recones 140s w NOS JBL kits (he is great and does beautiful work), but there are some aftermarket kits (Walden for one) that have no tone or power capacity.
Even w/ an improper load, the rig has more power and tone than I could possibly use---I guess that's the goal...D140Fs will surface someday, they were very common in PA usage in the NW.
  I had no idea about Logo Plates and that stuff...you guys are serious about this stuff...Thank You!!!

Gavin,

I have some JBL D140F's (need recones) and D130's (can be reconed into D140's...same frame) that need recones. You could get www.tedweber.com or Orange County to recone them (http://www.speakerrepair.com/) if you were interested in buying them from me? I'm in Cornelius, Oregon so I believe we're located close to each other. If you're interested, then PM me.

Hi Soundmasterg Greg;

  Excuse this second reply, but I am still new to the website navigation.
Fried D 140Fs...all gray & everything and in Cornelius OR !!!
Please say how much for them and do they say 16 ohm on them??? (doesn't really matter!).  Michael McIntosh at Inner Speaker (formerly of Brownell) has done fabulous recones of JBL & Altec for me for 30 yrs.  I have never blown one of his recones (and I blew them up before he got them). I am not sure if he is the only reconer at ISPKR, but he's the only guy to touch my treasures.
What a FABULOUS website.
  I know Ian McLennon!!!! The grille is why it took 30 yrs to get the second 200S box.  He's a great bass player FYI.
