Sorado on 230V
« on: May 25, 2010, 11:24:17 am »
I am willing to run Sunn Sorado amp on 230V / 50Hz. There are several options:

1. run it through an outboard step down transformer,
2. rewire existing one to match 230V,
3. buy a Dynaco clone P782, wired for 230V. here it is: http://www.triodeelectronics.com/p782sexp.html

If I choose 1st option, I will be doomed to carry that thing everywhere I go. I've no experience with the 2nd option, so I can't predict what will happen (what if I blow myself up?). 3rd one seems the most reasonable, but I am not 100% sure if P782 is a correct replacement PT for a Sorado. I will surely last longer than the original one. And a smell of a fresh transformer... mmm...

Any one tried such an operation? Any thoughts?

Although Sunn used several vendors for transformers, I've never seen one on a 60W amp that could be converted to 230V so option 2 is out. The P782 should work fine.

Hi,

I use a simple step down converter, they are app. 60€. I put it into the Sorado case or have an extra panel in my 350B case. Though I had no trouble with it in the last 3 years.

Greetings
