6550s for a Sentura II
« on: May 27, 2010, 10:50:31 am »
Any recommendations? I've had this amp and the original 2x15 cab for about 10 years. The original Mullard KT-88s were still in there (and fried) when I bought it. I put Svetlana 6550s in there as replacements and had the head re-biased accordingly. I have used the amp sparingly over the past few years, but the tubes are starting to go.

At the time, the Svetlanas were considered to be pretty good re-issue tubes. I know now that recently there have been a lot of KT-88s re-issued, but people seem really divided on these.

Right now I'm considering the Tung Sol 6550 re-issues. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about these? Wondering how their tonal characteristics compare to the Svetlanas.

Tung Sol 6550 re-issues aren't too bad, but I'm still finding it hard to replace the JJ KT-88's. My Sunn's really love them, for some reason.
