Sunn Bass amp?
« on: June 13, 2010, 02:56:23 pm »
Hey there,

I'm new to this forum, but I've been dreaming about getting a sunn amp for a while now. I am planning on selling a few things to fund for an Aguilar 410 (4ohm), but I want to know which sunn amp I should get to match this for bass. I want one that is loud and sounds great. Are most Sunn amps rated at 2ohms? does this mean if I plug it into this 4ohm cab it will loose some of its watts?

No, most Sunn amps are not stable into a 2 ohm load. As far as I know, only the Model T and the Coliseum series are.

Well, you're in the right place. First off, what type of budget are you working with? Secondly, exactly how "loud" do you need the amp to be? How much power, in terms of wattage, are you looking for?

Not to say you're wrong, but the 1979 catalog on the main site says that the second gen Model T, red knob Coliseum, and red Knob concerts are good for 2 ohms, their stability when combined with age is another question.

I'm aware that the Concert amps claimed 2 ohm stability, but a former forumite, very knowledgeable, said that they didn't have enough output devices to be truly stable into 2 ohms, and I believe him.
