Sunn Beta Lead went dead. Help
« on: November 25, 2010, 08:05:09 pm »
My Sunn Beta Lead has gone completely dead. The unit still has power and the lights turn on when you plug the cord into the three channels but no sound from the speakers at all, nothing. Before going dead it seemed like it was not as loud as most people say they are and it was kind of fading in out out a bit. Opened up the chassis, no burning smell or burnt thing that I can see. Any information would be great, I don't want to get hit too hard on a repair when it might be something very small and cheap. I hope. Thank You

First step: is it the amp? Run the amp into a different speaker, using a known good speaker cord. If it still doesn't work, then it's the amp

Next: preamp or power amp? Run a line in to the Power Amp In jack. If it works, then the problem is before the jack. If not, then it's the power amp. Also test the Beta's preamp out into a different power amp. If it works, then the preamp is good. Make sure that all of the guitar and speaker cords you use are good, as well as the guitar. Remember that, if you change more than one thing at a time, the problem is not yet isolated.
