Just found a Sunn Transducer 128 G in my garage!
« on: February 15, 2011, 07:34:32 pm »
My dad was a player, and he recently died so we just started going through some stuff. Anyone know about these and how much they might be worth. Looks to be in good shape.

Honestly, I don't know... but I did just see Solos IIA on the front of it. Bit dark in my garage yesterday. Does that extra info help? Thanks!

Okay, let's try it another way. On the back of the transducer, there is a magnet. It will either be made of a ceramic material, and be flat, either circular or square, with a slightly smaller metal plate on the back of the magnet, or it will be a much smaller cylinder contained within a more or less square piece of metal wrapped around it.

The latter will look like this:

Okay, so it appears that you have an AlNiCo Sunn 128G Transducer.

My usual response to anyone who asks what something is worth is that it's worth what someone will pay you for it, and what you're willing to accept. When buyer and seller agree, a price is set. Anything other than that is speculation. However, you can often find the prices that other buyers and sellers have agreed upon by looking at ebay completed auctions. IIRC, last I noticed, which was some time ago, they were going for about $25. However, I could be mistaken, or misremembering, or the going rate could have changed significantly.

It's not an amp.  It's just a speaker, unless you are being unclear about what you really have.

It's an amp. When I first saw it, I didn't see anything on the front because of it being pretty dark in the garage. All I could see was Sunn Transudcer 128 G on the back, which I thought was the name of the amp. Next day, as noted in a few posts up, I saw Solos IIA on the front. It has 2 of these speakers in the back, so I'm wondering how much the entire amp is worth.

I see a Solos II that didn't get a bid on eBay @ $600. I don't know, but based on previous sales of items from that era over the years I'd imagine that's probably more than 2 times what it would bring on a good day. Unlike the rare tube combo's, that obscure transistor stuff doesn't seem to do so well.
Put it on eBay at no reserve with a $1.00 starting bid, and we'll all know what it's actually worth.
