What about this 200s cab?
« on: April 23, 2011, 09:45:03 am »
Wasn't sure if I should post this in the classifieds or not... I have a hard time resisting any Sunn equipment that within reach & this just popped up on the local CL. I wasn't sure about the replacement speakers & the fact that they apparently need to be re-coned. I haven't heard anything from the seller yet & wanted some opinions. I don't "need" this cab but I have a problem :-D

Thanks for your help!

Another butchered 200S. As has been discussed here repeatedly, AlNiCo JBL's slip right in there, but; you just can't get those big ceramic speakers in a 200S from the back without hacking up the port ducting.
It looks like the owner of this once great cab carved the bottom one, then decided it was too much work and just ripped out the top one.

Yep, that's too bad. I'll stay away from this one & keep the wife happy.

Funny,  I bought my 215 cab and it was exactly the same way....bottom baffle butchered to fit Peavey Black Widow and no top baffle at all.  Funny thing with mine was that there was no route-out in the side for fitting any top baffle and no sign that I could see that there ever WAS a top baffle in the cabinet.  Is it possible that Sunn sold a  115  cabinet that was only one speaker but in the 215 sized cabinet ?   Seems to me that when I bought a  Concert Bass amp back in the day it came with a full sized (215, Sunn 200 size)  cabinet but only had a single 15" speaker in it.

Could it have originally been a 100S cab that had a hole cut in the top baffle for another 15? I've never been inside a 100S cab, so I don't know how the LE100 horn on top was mounted.

EdBass could be correct on this....a 100s cab. Sunn also made a 2 x 15 sized cab with a single 15" in it for the Sentura I and Spectrum I .

Those 1 X 15 cabs are shorter and shallower though. They also have a centered driver, you would need to completely redo the baffle to put a pair of 15's in, and even then it would be a very small enclosure, especially for bass use.
Does anybody have a 100S cab? C'mon mc2, you have to have one!

Here is my 1000S cab with the missing LE-100 horn.  It is a 2000S cab with the top speaker offset to make more room for the Horn.  The same as a 100S cab except the Horn would be centered  and the bottom half of the cab would be the same as a 200S.

The same horn ( LE-100 ) also used in the Studio PA Cabs.

Whatever the cab was originally,  I've installed a second set of baffles and put a pair of  JBL D140Fs  in it,  so it's a  200S cab now LOL.
