Do You Think This Is A Real Sale Price ?
« on: August 31, 2011, 07:17:56 am »
:-o   Do you think that this really sold for $ 1400 ?  :?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/260840859345?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

OR,  did the buyer buy it himself to make it look like someone would pay that much ?  Is that even a tactic that E-Bay sellers sometimes use ?  Or have I joined the Black Helicopter crowd ?

I would really like to know because at that price I have a hard time justifying keeping my 2000S.
( I don't really play it that much....just sort of have it for my love of Sunn. (not that that's not necessarily a good enough reason  :-D

I'm going with "C"...  :-D

I'm not sure I understand the strategy of "buy it himself to make it look like someone would pay that much", the seller would be out the fees and still have the unsold amp. If the same amp comes up right away from the same seller (or even a different seller), it's likely to be recognized. If the seller waits for a few weeks or months few will remember that a 2000S sold for $1400 when it comes time to bid.
Also, not too long ago $1400 would have been a “steal” for a nice 2000S. Remember the $2000+ Model T’s that were being so heatedly discussed on this site a while back? I think some active members actually paid that, or very near that for them. 2000S’s were bringing $1500 plus then.

I’d say if $1400 would make you sell yours, put it up. Set the reserve at $1400, the worst case scenario would be that you would lose your listing fees.
Don’t forget to link it here though!

Yeah, makes sense, Ed.
I guess I need to pay closer attention to current prices.  I thought that you could still pick up a 2000S in the $750 - $ 1000  range.
Even at $ 1400 I'm still not sure I'd be ready to sell mine though. (But it would be almost double what I paid for it).

Well, you only really need to pay attention if you are in the market to buy or sell one brother!
Who cares what the market value is if you are happy with your current 2000S situation? I pay attention because I'm always looking to steal one.

The used Sunn market still fluctuates pretty dramatically. I'm still predicting that it will eventually go up and stay up, but so far it's been like a yo-yo.

I had all but given up on owning a Model T, when they hopped over 2k. Luckily, I waited it out, and ended up with one for a 1100 bucks, shipped to my door. Original tubes and all. The way prices fluctuate with these amps, I'm sure there's going to be another spike. Only thing that rubs me funny is Beta Leads/Basses are still fetching 400-600 bucks to the right people, and it's making it hard for me to buy all of them. hahaha.

In the one picture provided that amp looks brand new.  If the entire amp looked that good and wasn't restored then I'm not surprised at all someone paid that much for it.

Hi, Guys,

A closer look at that one image shows that it might be sitting on top of two cabinets. If that's the case, a clean 2000S with a pair of matching enclosures would be pretty sweet at $1400.
