hey folks, long time no see!

well a friend o' mine has this weird sunn head for sale and i'm REALLY tempted on buying it, since i know their quality and i need a good head for my '74 orange 4x12 cab.

it's a Sunn Coliseum 200, which i've NEVER seen or heard of before. also, no info on the web.
...any info here?

it's this one:

i think it's a preamp/poweramp 2-in-1 of some sort.
he sez it it's made in USA, not one of the made in mexico weirdos.

please lemme know if you have any interesting info you wanna share!  :-D

rock on,

Pat.

That's basically just a Beta Bass in Preamp/Poweramp form.

I would pick it up if you aren't interested. I want it more than you do anyway.

PB-10 is the Beta preamp for Bass in rackmount form, and the Coliseum 200 is just one of the many slaves, or power amps, that Sunn's put out.

Oh, also someone probably had to put those two together in that box, don't bother with the "Made in USA" crap. It's a good combo no matter where they were made and all that other junk.

Seriously, if you end up not buying, let me know what he wants, I'll take it off his hands. (sorry, I know this isn't the for sale section.)

well i finally got to pick it up!

so, the PB-10 is US-made, the Colisseum 200 is made in mexico (it sez "200 watss" - yes with one t and two s's! HA!)...
i could almost bet that this monster was actually built into that cab at the sunn plant here in mexico, as it is PERFECTLY done, has the sunn tolex and all... pics later.

so... now how do i connect this thing? the pb into the power amp...speaker cables? and then?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Pat.

preamp to power amp should be instrument cables.  then plug the power amp into speakers using speaker cables.  that should be about it.
When life gives you lemons, buy amplifiers.

i would start with the master line out going to entradas A, speaker cabs going to bocinas solo.

the power amp section has some stereo functionality that probably wasn't intended for instrument use, but you may want to play with the individual preamp outputs eventually, combined with the A and B inputs and the stereo speaker outs if you have multiple cabs... just to see what you get.

When life gives you lemons, buy amplifiers.

Looking at the condition of those jacks, I might start by replacing a bunch of them.

+1
I would be extremely careful with that rig. Have you opened it up?
It looks like it's been "dunked", or possibly stored for a long time in a very damp environment; although I would think that the tolex and chassis cases would probably show more deterioration if it was a long term moisture exposure.
IMO those jacks wouldn't have disintegrated like that unless the rig was exposed to some outside influence though, and it's hard to tell from the pics for sure but those jacks don't look like they have had anything plugged in them for a loooong time.

Truthfully I think I would have a look inside before I even plugged it in.

Looks like it might be just a pair of Beta series power amps.
