Are these legit Sunn cabs... or fake?
« on: April 07, 2012, 06:07:45 pm »
Anybody seen these cabs before?

I haven't found anything like it while browsing pictures and guitar/bass forums, wich lead me to believe the store owner might have just smack a Sunn tag on those.

Looks like a Sunn 2x15 cabinet that has been cut down to a pair of 1x15s.

They do look Sunn-ish, I think those might be 118V cabs.
What do the cabs measure?

Hummm... interesting. That could explain why the top cab doesn't have metal corner reinforcement at the bottom

I don't know the cabs measurements since I haven't been to the store yet(it's a 4 hour drive from here)

I did ask the store owner about it though, so I'm waiting for his answer.

What about the sign that says "bass" on the lower cab? Has this been spotted on another Sunn cab??

to my knowledge the BASS badge is not a Sunn piece. they never put those on their cabs, kinda foofy looking anyway.
The store is 4 hours away? I would pass on these abortions and spend your hard earned $ on true unmodified Sunn gear instead !

What does the store's description say? What size speakers are in the cabs? Maybe ask them about that, cab size and speaker size. It would probably help with an ID on what they are.

That "Bass" badge isn't anything I've ever seen on a Sunn cab. In fact, the more I look at them the more I am leaning towards loudthud's opinion.

I'm also going with a 200s cut in half with the grill cloth spay painted black. The bass badge must be from something non Sunn related.

Maybe even a 2000S cut in half; if those are 15" drivers. That cab looks to be twice the width from edge to edge of the speaker's diameter when I measure it on my screen.

To me they look like my 115V cab but painted black or VERY dirty.

Look at the bottoms, they seem hacked if you look close. Also the grill fame on the top one looks like it's missing the bottom cross piece, and the bottom one looks like a piece with holes in it was added.
Might also explain why there's only one logo.

I wonder how they sound?

Exactly, Sunn used the double thickness plywood around the front and it looks like the port opening was split in half and a single thickness of wood used to seal it up.

Hi there, the Bass badge looks like it came off of a GBX bass cab, they used to put the GBX badge at the top left of the cab and the Bass badge went in the bottom right corner, definately not GBX cabs though,Mel.
